It still increases the immersion though, and the game is quite pretty to look at in closer view. RDR2 is probably better in first person than Skyrim is in third person, since it's harder to interact with minute objects in third person which is what Skyrim expects you to do constantly, while in RDR2 being in first person just means you are more responsive overall, but there's not that much fine detail to interact with. That said, It's easier to have a primarily third person game include a first person mode than the other way around, given how much minute detail there might be in fps titles that is harder to view and interact in third person. There's definitely design decisions that always dictate one being better than the other, and it's not just a matter of personal preference. Personally I tend to just use the alternative viewpoint occasionally in games that offer it. Maybe if you play with mouse and keyboard first person would feel more natural and responsive though. Just like Skyrim is best played in first person rather than third, RDR2 is the opposite.
